Atleti drew 1-1 at Cádiz on Wednesday but couldn’t beat the hosts on penalties. Carrasco scored our goal in the first half.

Our team started with several players that were making their pre-season debut, such as De Paul and Carrasco. Both those players were very active throughout the first half. Simeone’s men tried to attack the hosts from the very beginning and our first chance was a Garcés strike that came after a great play from Carrasco down the right wing. Cádiz answered immediately, but Oblak was there to produce a fantastic save. We eventually took the lead a few minutes before half-time thanks to a sensational goal by Carrasco.

Simeone brought three youngsters on at half-time as Giménez, De Paul and Carrasco made way for Camus, Montero and Alberto. The hosts improved after the break, and Oblak was forced to make a few saves. Serrano came on for Lemar in the 62nd minute and Vrsaljko and Garcés made way for Arias and Manu. Cádiz kept pushing and eventually found the equaliser in the final minutes of the game. The hosts eventually went on to win the match on penalties as Atleti have another friendly before LaLiga kicks off.

Next up: Feyenoord.
