Atletico victorious in Porto
Martinez put Porto in front behind but Godin and Arda Turan score for Atletico in the second half to make it 2 wins out of 2 in the Champions League.

Atletico Madrid won in Porto and becomes the sole leader of the group G. Victories against Zenit in the Calderon (3-1 ) and now in Porto (1-2 ) have catapulted Cholo to the top of the group with six points, three more than Porto and five more than Austria and Zenit. A great game from a team that has completed a spectacular season opener. 7 wins in the League 2 Champions League win and 2 draws in the Supercopa. They do not know what it means to lose.
Atletico Madrid returned to the Estadio Do Dragao , where they had played twice in the past without success. On the first occasion, a scoreless draw was the outcome in the Champions League after a 2-2 draw in the first leg at the Calderon. In the second occasion in the Group Stage, the home side won. It was the season of our Europa League triumph.
The game began with a few change from the victorious side in the Bernabeu. Diego Costa, who was serving his last game ban, the injured Adrian and Mario Suarez all missed out. However, it was no excuse because Simeone had put a very competitive team out in the Dragao Stadium where the hsot had gone 75 consecutive league games without losing.
After an interesting start, Atletico din’t create many clear scoring opportunities in the first half. A questionable free kick on the edge of the area went to Joshua Jackson Martinez who sent the ball in to the back of the net to gave the home side a 1-0 lead.
The goal left Atletico shocked and looking out of the game until the 29th minute when Raul Garcia tried to surprise the goal keeper with a shot from midfield but it went over the crossbar.
The clearest opportunity for Simeone’s men arrived from set pieces. Gabi delivered a corner that Raul Garcia sent on to the crossbar. It was the best chance of th first half for the visitors. Courtois at the other end had to save a shot from Varela before the break.
The second half was another story. Atletico Madrid showed up and started scaring their opponent. First it was Filipe Luis who shot from outside the area, Otamendi got a touch stopping it going into the bottom corner. It was the prelude to the goal. In the 58th Gabi found Godin who levelled the score.
Atletico then looked the most dangerous team and in the 86th minutes Gabi delivered a set piece to Arda in the area and the Turkish midfielder beat Helton to make it 2-1 with less than five minutes to play.
Excellent win against Porto with the downside being the injury to Raul Garcia but the positives are an unbeaten start in the return to the Champions league with two wins in the first two games.
