Atletico Madrid presented the Jesus Gil & Gil trophy

Enrique Cerezo (President of Club Atlético de Madrid) and Miguel Angel Gil (Chief Executive Officer) attended the event on Monday June 15 in the town of El Burgo de Osma in Soria to present the ‘Jesus Gil & Gil Memorial Trophy', which the first team will play against Club Deportivo Numancia on 21 July at 19:00 at the Municipal Sports Field in Burgo de Osma.

A very emotional event in which Jesus Gil was present and so too was Lazaro Albarracin (vice president of business) and José Luis Pérez Caminero (Sporting director). On behalf of Club Deportivo Numancia, vice president, Eduardo Rubio attended along with the CEO Victor Manuel Martín Ortega. Also present was the mayor of Burgo de Osma and president of the council, Antonio Pardo Capilla, and the Councillor for Culture and Celebrations, Elias Alonso.

El Burgo de Osma Mayor opened the event noting that "today we find people here that are very important to this town. On September 11, Atletico Madrid brought the last eight titles they had won and we decided to create this memorial with which we were very happy and satisfied."

Enrique Cerezo took the floor to emphasize that "we are greatly pleased to return to this special place with our tenth Copa del Rey. I am convinced that Jesus Gil would be so proud of the feat achieved by the team, and especially the way they fought to seize this important trophy. Some time ago, we committed to return, as the sporting calendar permits, to play a friendly match with our first team."

"Thus, we will kick-start a series of meetings that will see us go to South America, where we will dispute the Euroamericana Cup in Argentina, Peru and Uruguay, to continue preparing for the start of the league, and especially the first major event we have against FC Barcelona in the Supercopa of Spain. I hope all the residents of this town and nearby villages come to this party, and I'm sure Numancia and Atlético Madrid will give us the opportunity to enjoy a nice summer afternoon of football," he said to applause from the people gathered at the Plenary Hall of the City of El Burgo de Osma.

Both the representative of Numancia as the host club on Sunday, Angel Munoz (President of Sporting Uxana) were very grateful for this initiative and invited all parties to repeat in coming years.

The emotional highlight of the reception was when Miguel Angel Gil and Lazarus Albarracin spoke. The CEO of Atleti acknowledged that "I remember when I came here with my father and I feel pride and satisfaction to relive that feeling."

Albarracin Lazarus had nothing but love for what was his accomplice and friend: "Jesus would be very happy to see what the team is achieving. This memorial is the least we could do for all he has done for this club."

With these words a very emotional event drew to a close ahead of the game next Sunday. A meeting for all the residents of El Burgo de Osma to enjoy.
