Atlético de Madrid has formalised the launch of its strategic agreement with Kazakhstan through its Academy
This collaborative project will allow for the construction of a new high-performance sports centre near Almaty and will help the Asian country grow on a footballing level, thanks to the experience of Atlético de Madrid’s coaches and officials.
On Thursday 19th September, at the offices of the Cívitas Metropolitano, our CEO, Miguel Ángel Gil Marín, along with Nurtleuov Shalkar, CEO of Doscar Group, and Okhonov Farrukh, CEO of Sport Asset Management, formalised the agreement to create a strategic alliance: an Academy project between Atlético de Madrid and Kazakhstan. The signing ceremony was also attended by Danat Mussayev, the Kazakh ambassador to Spain.
This is a ten-year project, the foundations of which were established last June when a delegation from Atlético de Madrid, headed by president Enrique Cerezo, held various meetings with Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the president of Kazakhstan, and Adlet Nazarbayevich Barmenkulov, president of the Kazakhstan Football Federation, in Astana, the capital of the central Asian nation. During these institutional meetings, all parties expressed their interest in developing this project, which is significant both for the country itself and the wider region of Central Asia.
Through our collaboration as a strategic partner, Kazakhstan will launch an academy, the focus of which will be the construction of a new high-performance sports centre, set to become a key reference point in the country. This facility will be built near the city of Almaty, and construction work, which will commence following the formalisation of this agreement, is scheduled to be completed by December 2025. Earlier this summer, architects working for our club travelled to the area to study the terrain and lay the groundwork for cooperation with the local engineers responsible for constructing this major site.
In this way, Atlético de Madrid continues to advance its expansion plan linked to the Academy and will support Kazakhstan’s footballing growth with the expertise of its coaches and officials. This initiative is strongly backed by Kazakhstan’s president, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, who is one of the project’s main supporters, as well as the aforementioned ambassador, Danat Mussayev.
