Atlético de Madrid returns to work after a few days of vacation
Asenjo begins the second stage of his rehabilitation
After three days off, Atlético de Madrid has returned to work with an evening session at the facilities of the Majadahonda Sports Complex on Monday which lasted approximately an hour-and-a-half.
The ‘rojiblancos’, still missing international players Luis Perea, Diego Forlán, Diego Godín, David De Gea and Álvaro Dominguez, began the practice with half-an-hour of strength training in the gym, then took the pitch and started with some 4v2s, possession drills, technical/tactical work and wrapped things up with a small-sided game. While the field players worked under the orders of the head coach, Quique S. Flores, goalkeepers Joel and Hueto (Juvenil División de Honor) did the same under the directions of Emilio Álvarez.
Besides the internationals, the biggest absence of the day was that of Sergio Kun Agüero, who had the Club’s permission. It should be recalled that the Argentinean will not be able to play in the next league fixture against Osasunsa due to suspension. Reserve squad players Borja and Pulido also missed out on the first team session as they played with Atlético de Madrid B in this past weekend’s league game against Universidad de Las Palmas.
Those who did rejoin the session were Elías, Fran Mérida and Joel, who returned after fulfilling their duties with their respective national squads and began to prepare for the encounter against the side from Navarra.
For their part, Koke and Asenjo completed an alternative session. The former, with problems in his left hamstring and groin, worked out in the gym and then took the pitch to work alongside Óscar Pitillas (physical trainer/physio). Sergio Asenjo, who began the second stage of his rehabilitation on Monday at the Cerro del Espino facilities in Majadahonda, did similar work on his knee together with Pitillas and the ‘rojiblanco’ physical therapists, Jesús Vázquez and Esteban Arévalo.
The team will return to training on Tuesday with a morning session at 11 am at the Majadahonda Sports Complex.
