Atlético begin to prepare for their comeback attempt against Real Madrid

Perea stayed at home to recover from his tonsillitis

Atlético de Madrid returned to training after the victory over Mallorca. There’s no time to celebrate after Monday night’s win, as they have to focus on Real Madrid. Qualification for the Copa del Rey semi-finals is only two goals away and the ‘rojiblanco’ squad returned to practice looking forward to trying to come back in the qualifying tie.

In this practice, the players who started against Mallorca held a regenerative session in the gym, with the exceptions of Antonio López and Elías, who completed the same work as the rest of their teammates. Absent from the facilities in Majadahonda was Luis Amaranto Perea, who stayed at home to recover from the follicular tonsillitis from which he is suffering and which kept him from playing on Monday. For their part, Mario Suárez and Kun Agüero continued with their recoveries from their respective injuries with the Club physical therapists.

Squad players Vitor, Hermosa, Atienza, César and Iago took the pitch at the Majadahonda Sports Complex and joined the rest of the squad for the training session to begin getting ready for this Thursday’s fixture against Real Madrid. Diego Costa worked out apart from his teammates with physical trainer/physiotherapist Óscar Pitillas.

The session, which last around 90 minutes, began with physical work for a part of the squad, while goalkeepers Joel and Iago worked with goalkeeping coach Emilio Álvarez.

Subsequently, the players played possession games, completed a physical circuit with finishing and odd-numbered attack-defence drills. Afterwards, the training came to an end with a scrimmage on a small-sided pitch.
