Atleti have qualified for the Champions League round of 16! Simeone’s men beat FC Porto 3-1 on Tuesday as Griezmann, Correa and De Paul scored our goals.

Our team were intense from the off and looked dangerous on the break. However, we had an early problem 13’ into the game, when Suárez was forced to leave the pitch due to muscle pain. The Uruguayan was replaced by Cunha. We had a massive double chance halfway through the first half as Carrasco pulled off an exceptional play and delivered the cross. Griezmann and Lemar were inches away from connecting with the ball, but Llorente did – and his strike was saved by the keeper. The hosts reacted well and produced a chance of their own. Luckily, Oblak answered with a fantastic save. FC Porto put pressure on us towards the end of the first half, but we reached half-time with the score at 0-0.

Simeone and Sérgio Conceição made no changes during the break – meaning the same 22 players started the second half. The hosts had an attempt that was saved by Oblak, but Atleti struck first in the 56th minute. Lemar delivered a corner and Griezmann scored. We finally had our goal, but there was a long way to go. Simeone brought Correa on for Lemar in the 65th minute – our second substitution of the night. The next few moments were hectic as Carrasco and Wendell were shown straight red cards. This meant it was 10vs10 in the last 20’ of the game. Correa had a chance to double our lead, but his strike flew over the crossbar. Lodi replaced Cunha in the 83rd minute, not long before Correa finished in style to give us a two-goal lead. De Paul netted our third goal of the night shortly thereafter, and the game ended 3-1 after FC Porto scored a penalty in stoppage time.

Atleti are through to the Champions League last 16!
