Atleti suffered a 1-0 defeat at Real Madrid on Saturday despite an impressive first half performance.

Our team started the game very strongly, collecting many chances to score in the opening minutes. Our first player to try his luck was Vitolo, who was denied by Courtois. However, that first opportunity gave us confidence to attack the hosts, and Saúl struck wide the following minute. But our biggest chance was from Correa, who hit the post from close range. Morata was brought down inside the box by Casemiro after the game reached the first half hour, but the referee didn’t award us a penalty. Real Madrid’s two chances in the first half came from set pieces, and both were struck wide by Ramos.

However, Atleti were the better side in the opening 45 minutes, which prompted Zidane to make a double substitution at half-time as Vinicius and Lucas Vázquez came on for Isco and Kroos. Simeone was also forced to make a change five minutes into the second half, when Lemar came on for Morata. Unfortunately, Real Madrid took the lead shortly thereafter through Benzema, who netted from close range following a perfect cross from Mendy. Our team struggled after that, with the hosts feeling more confident in possession. 70 minutes into the clash, Carrasco came on for Vitolo, with the Belgian having just completed one training session since his return. Simeone made one final substitution bringing Camello on for Thomas, looking to accumulate as many attacking players as possible. Carrasco looked sharp as he created problems for Real Madrid’s defenders, but time was running out and the hosts were maintaining the one-goal lead. We pushed until the end for the equaliser, but the game ultimately finished 1-0.
