Atleti lost 1-0 on Wednesday at the Wanda Metropolitano in the Champions League. Junior Messias’ late goal decided the game.

The Wanda Metropolitano was packed and its atmosphere electric as a big European game began. Both sides approached the match with high intensity. De Paul had two big chances early on – the first was inches away from going in, although it was preceded by an offside position, and the second one flew over the crossbar. It was a hard-fought first half, but neither team managed to produce many big chances. We therefore reached half-time with the score at 0-0.

Lemar was close to scoring early into the second half, but his right-foot strike from inside the box was saved by Tatarusanu. Kjaer also had a chance for the visitors as his header went over the crossbar. Simeone made a double substitution in the 64th minute, when Lodi and Correa came on for Hermoso and Lemar. De Paul had another attempt on goal via a volley from the edge of the box. The keeper saved it. Simeone made further changes as Vrsaljko, Cunha and Kondogbia replaced De Paul, Suárez and Griezmann. Unfortunately, Milan scored in the 87th minute through Junior Messias. We pushed until the end for the equaliser and had a massive close-range chance from Cunha, but he was off target. The game ultimately ended 1-0 for the visitors, and Atleti need to beat FC Porto in the final match day to qualify for the last 16.
