Atleti suffer defeat at the Bernabéu
Our team fought until the end but lost 2-0 at Real Madrid on Sunday.
Atleti suffered a 2-0 defeat at the Santiago Bernabéu on Sunday.
Cunha had the first attempt of the match – a strike from the edge of the box that flew over the crossbar. Correa also created problems for the hosts early on. However, Ancelotti’s side struck first through a Benzema volley in the 17th minute. Our team’s best chance to equalise in the first half was a Griezmann free-kick attempt that was saved by Courtois. Neither side managed to create any more chances before the break and we reached half-time one goal down.
Lemar and João Félix replaced Carrasco and Griezmann – the Frenchman was forced to leave the pitch due to muscle pain – after the break. We started the second half very strongly, with João Félix creating problems every time he was on the ball. He almost scored from the edge of the box – through a strike that was denied by the keeper. He then provided an excellent through ball for Cunha, but once again Courtois saved the shot. Unfortunately, the hosts doubled their lead 58’ into the game – this time through Asensio. Simeone reacted with a double substitution as Lodi and Suárez came on for Correa and Cunha. Hermoso had a chance to pull one back shortly thereafter, but his header was off target. De Paul made way for Herrera in what was our final substitution of the game. We kept fighting despite the two-goal deficit and Lemar and João Félix were both very close to scoring, but the game ultimately ended 2-0.
