Atleti suffer Champions League blow in Dortmund

Our team lost 4-0 against Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday night. Our players suffered the German team's fantastic counter-attacks in a match in which Saúl and Correa hit the post.

Atleti lost 4-0 against Borussia Dortmund at the Signal Iduna Park on Wednesday night.

Our team started the game well, controlling Borussia Dortmund's attempts to counterattack and also getting the ball into Bürki's box on several occasions. The German side is fast and dangerous on the break, but our players worked well to stop them, while at the same time trying to find Costa, who tried to run behind Borussia Dortmund's defence every time he got the chance.

However, just before the 40th minute mark Lucien Favre's team got the lead, when Witsel's shot from outside the box was deflected and ended inside Oblak's goal. It was a tough blow to take for Atleti as the game went into half-time. Our team had 45 minutes to turn things around at a very difficult stadium.

Simeone decided to make the first substitution at half-time, when Thomas Partey made way for Rodrigo. As a consequence, our team started the second half very well, pressuring high up the pitch and putting Borussia Dortmund's defence under a lot of pressure. Saúl had three chances in a row, the first of which went just wide of the post, our midfielder's second shot hit the post and the last one was saved by Bürki. Our team was playing spectacularly, constantly attacking, and was very unlucky to be one goal down. Juanfran and Filipe Luis were playing almost as wingers, causing big problems for the German team's defence. It felt as if the goal was close, but time was running out.

Simeone made the second change in the 70th minute, bringing on Correa for Saúl, looking to give the team even more offensive potential. But tonight was not meant to be, as Borussia Dortmund scored the second just a couple of minutes later with one of their first chances in the second half.

Atleti never gave up and kept attacking, but once again were unlucky when in the 77th minute Correa hit the post and five minutes later the home team scored the third after a blistering counter-attack. A defensive mistake led to Borussia Dortmund's fourth goal in the 89th minute and the match finished shortly thereafter.

After tonight's result, our team sits second in the Champions League group with six points.
