Atleti drew 1-1 against Real Sociedad at the Wanda Metropolitano on Sunday to secure the third spot in the LaLiga standings.
Our club paid tribute to departing assistant coach Germán Burgos ahead of the game. Our team looked to secure the third spot and we searched for the goal from the beginning. After several attempts, it was Koke who put us in front half an hour into the clash. Morata provided an excellent assist.
Oblak was forced to make an excellent save early into the second half. Not long after, Joao Félix, Carrasco and Correa came on for Costa, Thomas and Vitolo. One hour into the match, Correa had a big chance to double our lead following a cross from Trippier, but our former goalkeeper Moyá made a good save to deny the Argentine. Llorente and Giménez came on for Morata and the Englishman as the game progressed. Oblak made another great save on one end of the pitch and Carrasco was close to scoring on the other in the final stretch of the clash, but 87 minutes into the match, Real Sociedad equalised from a set piece. Atleti ultimately held on to the draw and secured the third spot in LaLiga.
