The hosts had a massive early chance as Berisha cut inside and his shot hit the woodwork. We became more and more dangerous and Hermoso found the breakthrough in the final minutes of the first half. Carrasco delivered the cross and the Spaniard headed it home to score a very valuable goal.
Joao Félix had a shot on goal in the opening seconds of the second half, but it was the hosts who had the really big chance as Szoboszlai was off target from close range. Simeone moved things around just after the hour mark, bringing Herrera and Correa on for Saúl and Suárez. Despite the odd Salzburg chance, we dominated possession in many phases of the second 45’.
