FOR THE EIGHTH STRAIGHT SEASON

Atleti qualify for Champions League

Our team has always qualified for the European competition in Simeone’s eight full seasons as our coach.

Atleti have qualified for next season’s Champions League thanks to Friday’s win against Betis at the Wanda Metropolitano. It’s the eighth straight season in which we finish in the top four.

In fact, since Simeone’s first full season as our coach (2012/13), we have always qualified for the European competition. Only Manchester City, Bayern Munich, PSG, Juventus, Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Benfica – although the Portuguese side will have to make it through the playoffs first – and Atleti have qualified for the Champions League in all of the last eight years.

Our performances on the pitch have been rewarded on the UEFA ranking, which is based on the results obtained in the previous five seasons and where our team is currently second. In that period, Atleti have reached the Champions League final and semi-final and have won the Europa League and UEFA Super Cup. This season, we’ve qualified for Champions League quarter-final, in which we’ll face RB Leipzig on Aug. 13.
