Our team completed an excellent opening 15 minutes, with intensity, high press and enjoying possession of the ball. However, the visitors improved as the first half progressed. They had a decent chance through Mario, who volleyed the ball from outside the box and forced Oblak into making a good save. Simeone’s men attacked, but struggled to create big problems for Asenjo.
Mario also had the first chance after the break, but Oblak was there once again to make a simple save. Our team answered with several crosses from Trippier and Lodi, but our strikers were unable to connect with the ball. The Brazilian also had a shot from inside the box that was saved by Asenjo. With 20 minutes to go, Simeone decided to make a triple change as Carrasco, Llorente and Costa came on for Koke, Correa and Suárez. Joao Félix later made way for Herrera as we continued to attack, but neither team was able to break the deadlock and the match ultimately ended 0-0.
