Atleti earned a 3-0 win over Numancia on Saturday in the first game of the pre-season thanks to second half goals from Vitolo, Saponjic and Felipe.
Our team greatly dominated possession in the first 45 minutes, and had several chances to take the lead, mainly through João Félix, Morata, Lemar and Diego Costa. The Portuguese player was substituted just before the 30-minute mark, and in came Correa. The Argentine had the best chance of the first half as he struck the post just moments before half-time.
Simeone changed the whole team after the break – minus Correa – and new signings Felipe and Herrera got to make their debuts. Trippier, Hermoso, Lodi, Llorente and João Félix had done so during the first 45 minutes. Saponjic also made his debut in the second half, when he came on for Correa just after the hour mark. Vitolo put Atleti in the lead a few minutes later thanks to a diving header. Saponjic doubled the lead following a fantastic team play, and Felipe scored the third shortly thereafter. Both players scored in their debut. The match finished 3-0 as our team kicked off the pre-season with a win.
