Atleti held to a draw by Leganés

Our team earned a point at Butarque in the Madrid derby on Saturday, as Leganés equalised ten minutes from the end.

Atleti were held to a 1-1 draw against Leganés on Saturday, after the home team equalised ten minutes from the end.

Our team started off very strongly, and after just one minute Correa hit the crossbar, although the play was finally ruled as offside.

However, despite the strong start, our team struggled to keep up the rhythm as the first half progressed. The absence of important players such as Godín, Koke and Diego Costa, who were all injured, showed, although their substitutes on the day were active and played well. In fact, Gelson Martins, who played up front, was one of the most active and dangerous players during the first 45 minutes.

In the second half, Atleti attacked from the off. Griezmann and Gelson Martins connected very well and very often, and the only thing missing was the goal. Leganés' defense was under a lot of pressure.

After about 65 minutes, our team made their first substitution, as Correa made way for Vitolo in order to attack Leganés' fullbacks. But it was Griezmann who opened the score just five minutes later with an outstanding free-kick goal. Cuéllar didn't even move and was only able to follow the Frenchman's strike with his eyes. The goal was finally here and it had arrived in spectacular fashion.

However, Leganés equalised from a set piece with just ten minutes to go, and Atleti were unable to score the second, even though Griezmann had a good chance in the last minute. But this time the ball went over Cuéllar's goal, and the derby ended with a 1-1 draw at Butarque.
