Atleti held to a 1-1 draw against Villarreal

Our team drew 1-1 on Saturday against Villarreal at the Estadio de la Cerámica. Mario Gaspar equalised Filipe Luis' goal.

Atleti were held to a 1-1 draw on Sunday against Villarreal at the Estadio de la Cerámica.

It was a very intense match, and after just five minutes, our team had its first chance. Griezmann's corner was headed just wide by Giménez, who returned to the team following his injury.

Villarreal, though, were up for the challenge and hit back with a couple of chances of their own in the first 15 minutes, but were unable to beat Atleti's defence. Our team started to dominate the match around the 20th minute mark, and put Villarreal's defenders under pressure with chances by Kalinic, Griezmann and Saúl.

The final minutes of the first half went by without any big chances for either team, and at half time Atleti made a double substitution, as Rodrigo and Kalinic made way for Correa and Lemar.

Simeone's changes seemed to work, because after just five minutes Filipe Luis headed the ball into the back of the net after a cross by Griezmann. Atleti had finally found their goal, but most of the second half was still ahead and Villarreal weren't going to go down without a fight.

In fact, the home team kept pushing and 15 minutes later equalised thanks to a goal by Mario Gaspar. Our team had less than half an hour to score the second and get the win.

Villarreal came alive after their goal, and were very close to taking the lead on several occasions, but Oblak pulled off world class saves time after time. The Slovenian was in incredible form and kept us in the game.

Our boys never stopped believing and chased the win until the end. Lemar and Lucas Hernández had two big chances in the final minutes, but the headers by the Frenchmen went wide.

With the draw, Atleti now have 16 points in LaLiga.
