Atleti gear up for important clash against Bayer Leverkusen
Our team hosts the German side in a new Champions League game. The match is to be played on Tuesday at 6.55 pm CET.
The Champions League returns to the Wanda Metropolitano on Tuesday with matchday 3 of the group stage. Atleti face Bayer Leverkusen at 6.55 pm CET.
Our team are currently tied with Juventus at the top of the group with four points, whereas the German side are fourth following their defeats to Lokomotiv (2-1) and the Italians (3-0). Simeone’s men, on the other hand, drew 2-2 against Juventus and earned a 2-0 win in Moscow.
The Germans are ninth in the Bundesliga, where Kevin Volland has so far been their main man, having registered four goals and two assists.
The German, in fact, was on the pitch the last time both teams met – on March 15, 2017 – and tested Oblak’s reflexes. The Slovenian made an extraordinary triple save that every Atleti fan remembers to deny Volland.
But that wasn’t the first time that Oblak faced Bayer Leverkusen. In the 2014/15 season, our goalkeeper denied Calhanoglu in the penalty shootout to secure qualification to the next round of the Champions League.
