Atleti gear up for Anfield challenge
Anfield hosts the return leg of the Champions League last 16 on Wednesday as our team takes on Liverpool. The match is to be played at 9 pm CET.
Atleti gear up for a massive test as we take on Liverpool on Wednesday in the return leg of the Champions League last 16. The legendary Anfield will host the game, which is to kick off at 9 pm CET.
Our team has a one-goal lead, thanks to Saúl’s strike in our 1-0 win at the Wanda Metropolitano. We arrive at the game following our 2-2 draw against Sevilla in LaLiga, whereas Liverpool beat Bournemouth 2-1 at the weekend.
The English side are enjoying an exceptional season, particularly in the Premier League, in which they enjoy a sensational 25-point lead over second-placed Manchester City. Moreover, they’ve won all 15 league games at Anfield, and have earned two wins and a draw at home in the Champions League.
Their stadium is clearly a fortress for Jürgen Klopp’s men. Built in 1884, Anfield has hosted two matches between Liverpool and Atleti in the past. The first was in the 2008/09 season, when we drew 1-1 in the Champions League group stages. The following season, we faced the Reds in the Europa League semi-finals, and a Diego Forlán goal earned us qualification for the final, which we went on to win against Fulham in Hamburg.
