Atleti fight until the end but lose in Barcelona
Our team lost 2-0 on Saturday at the Camp Nou after late goals from Suárez and Messi. Diego Costa was sent off in the first half.
Atleti fought hard until the very end on Saturday but ultimately lost 2-0 to Barcelona at the Camp Nou.
Diego Costa had the first chance for our team just before the 10 minute mark, but his header went over ter Stegen’s goal. However, the home side answered with a chance of their own. Messi found Alba’s run, but the left-back’s strike hit the post. After that, our players had several good chances, in most cases thanks to our high pressure.
We had very bad news just before we reached the first half hour, when Diego Costa was sent off. The red card led Simeone to bring on Correa for Arias, which meant Thomas switched to right-back. The game reached half-time without any more big chances for either club.
After the break, Atleti defended well and tried to counter attack. Simeone made a very attacking-minded substitution just before the hour mark: Morata came on for Filipe Luis. Oblak made a series of outstanding saves to deny the Barcelona strikers in the following minutes. Rodrigo had a great chance from a Griezmann cross, but the ball went over the crossbar.
It was our last good opportunity to score, and Barcelona netted two goals inside the last five minutes. First Suárez - with a fantastic strike from outside the box - and then Messi got the goals and the three points for the home side.
