MATCH RECAP

Atleti fight until the end but can’t break Valladolid’s defence

Our team drew 0-0 against Valladolid on Sunday.

Atleti drew 0-0 at Valladolid’s José Zorrilla stadium on Sunday despite fighting until the very end.

Both teams started the game strongly, but despite the intensity of the clash neither side collected clear chances inside the first half hour. However, Valladolid were awarded a penalty 35 minutes in following a VAR review. Sandro stepped up to take it, but he shot over the crossbar. It was the biggest chance of the first 45 minutes, and we soon reached half-time at the José Zorrilla stadium.

Our team enjoyed a strong half to the second half, collecting two early chances down Lodi’s left flank and a powerful Saúl shot from outside the box that went just wide. But Valladolid answered with a chance of their own as Sandro struck wide. It was around that time when Simeone made his first two substitutions of the game, which saw Joao Félix and Koke made way for Correa and Lemar. We kept pushing and soon came yet another chance for our team, this time through Morata. Simeone made his final change to give Atleti one last push some 20 minutes before the end as Herrera came on for the Spanish striker. Our team kept fighting and Correa had our best chance of the match as his left-foot volley struck the post. We were unlucky not to score, and although we gave it our all until the last second, the match ultimately ended in a goalless draw in Valladolid.
