Atleti fight back to earn epic last-minute draw against Juventus

Our team earned a 2-2 draw in the Champions League debut thanks to a last-minute goal from Héctor Herrera.

Atleti earned an epic 2-2 draw against Juventus at the Wanda Metropolitano on Wednesday. Savic and Herrera scored to come back from a two-goal deficit.

After some 10 minutes, we had a great double chance. First, Joao Félix’s shot was saved by the keeper, and Giménez followed up with a header that went inches too high. The Portuguese forward had another chance moments later, but his headed shot was saved by Szczesny.

Atleti were dominant during the first 45 minutes, pressing hard and attacking the Italians, but it was Juventus who took the lead right after the break through an excellent Cuadrado strike. Thomas answered with a shot from outside the box, but the ball went over the crossbar. Some 60 minutes in, our team had a great chance to equalise following an excellent play between Trippier, Saúl and Koke, but the Uruguayan’s shot also went just too high. It didn’t seem to be our night, however, and the Italian side doubled their lead shortly thereafter thanks to a Matuidi header. But Atleti never give up and we pulled one back through a Savic header with 20 minutes remaining… And in the last minute, Herrera, on his official debut, scored the equaliser and sent the Wanda Metropolitano into delirium.
