MATCH PREVIEW | ATHLETIC CLUB – ATLÉTICO DE MADRID

Atleti face tough challenge in Bilbao

Our team takes on Athletic Club on Sunday at 9pm CET.

Atleti gear up for another key LaLiga clash on Sunday as we take on Athletic Club at San Mamés. With six fixtures to go, Simeone’s men are the league leaders with 73 points. Sunday’s game is to kick off at 9pm CET.

Our team has picked up two straight home wins against Eibar and Huesca – keeping clean sheets in both matches. Every win is vital as the LaLiga standings couldn’t be much tighter. Atleti, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Sevilla are fighting for the trophy and only six points separate all of them. Moreover, several of these teams still have to face each other once more.

Athletic Club drew at Betis in their last league game and lost the Copa del Rey final against Barcelona. Their last win came on March 7, when they beat Granada 2-1.

In the reverse fixture, we beat the Basque side 2-1 thanks to the goals from Luis Suárez – who is back in the squad list after his injury – and Marcos Llorente. As for the last game at San Mamés between both teams, the score was 1-1 in what was our first match after the COVID-19 lockdown.

Atleti have won five out of the eight games played at the new San Mamés across all competitions (2D, 1L) and will look to do so again on Sunday in what is a key match in the fight for LaLiga.
