MATCH PREVIEW | ATLÉTICO DE SAN LUIS – ATLÉTICO DE MADRID

Atleti face sister club Atlético de San Luis in last game of American Tour

Our team faces Atlético de San Luis in Mexico on Saturday, Aug. 3 at 7 pm CET. It will be the last game of the American Tour.

Atleti gear up for the last match of the American Tour, which will be played in Mexico on Saturday, Aug. 3 at 7 pm CET. We will face our sister club, Atlético de San Luis, at their home – Alfonso Lastras stadium. It will be a very special game because of our ties with the Mexican side and the passion we both share.

The last time our team played in Mexico was two years ago, when we went head to head with Toluca. This time we will face Atlético de San Luis, who this year achieved promotion to the top flight of Mexican football. They’re already two weeks into the season, having registered a win and a defeat so far.

Simeone’s players have just wrapped up the US Tour with great success (three wins in three matches). In our first game, we beat Chivas on penalties following a 0-0 draw after 90 minutes. In our second clash, we earned a massive 7-3 win over Real Madrid. In our third and final match, we beat the MLS All-Stars 3-0, which is the same result we achieved against Numancia on July 20, before heading to America.

Atlético de San Luis have a familiar face in their team: our former goalkeeper Axel Werner, who has just joined our sister club on loan. Ian González also played at our Academy, whereas the Mexican side’s striker, Nicolás Ibáñez, is also on loan from our club.

After the game in Mexico, we will have one last friendly in Europe – against Juventus on Aug. 10 in Stockholm. It will be our last test before our LaLiga debut on Aug. 18 against Getafe.
