Atleti earned a vital win against Real Sociedad on Wednesday. Carrasco and Correa scored the goals in the first half to pick up three key points.
Our team enjoyed the perfect start to the game – attacking, pressing high and recovering the ball within seconds. Suárez had an early free-kick attempt that was inches wide and Llorente was even closer to scoring with a one on one that was saved by the keeper. We were playing great, the only thing missing was the goal… which eventually arrived 15’ in. Llorente provided a lobbed through ball towards Carrasco and the Belgian beat the keeper. Simeone’s men didn’t stop there and soon went 2-0 up. This time it was Correa, who benefitted from a nice through ball from Suárez to double our lead before we reached the half hour.
Real Sociedad improved after that, and it was then when Oblak began with his daily big saves to deny the visitors’ strikers. Atleti also had chances to score the third, but we reached half-time with the score at 2-0.
We were also close to scoring the third in the second half, with several big chances that we were unable to convert. The biggest was for Suárez, whose strike was saved by the keeper. Real Sociedad also attacked and Simeone answered with some changes. First, Kondogbia and Joao Félix came on for Saúl and Correa. With 10’ to go, Suárez also made way for Lodi. However, Real Sociedad pulled one back in the 83rd minute through Zubeldia. The visitors pushed for the equaliser until the end, and Atleti suffered but we ultimately stood our ground to earn a vital LaLiga win.
Next up: Osasuna on Sunday.
