Atleti earned a massive 7-3 win over Real Madrid in the International Champions Cup at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium.
Our team took the lead inside the first minute through Diego Costa. Joao Félix got the assist. It was a fantastic start from the lads, and we doubled out lead shortly thereafter thanks to the Portuguese forward. Our number 7 had chosen the derby to score his first goal for our club. Not everything was good news, though, as Morata picked up an injury and was forced to leave the pitch. Correa came on for the Spaniard. And it was the Argentine who netted the third just before the 20th minute mark. Koke provided an excellent pass and Correa finished in superb fashion. But we weren’t going to slow down, and Diego Costa scored his second goal to put us 4-0 up before the first half hour was up. The striker rounded off an exceptional first half scoring a hat-trick from the penalty spot. We headed to the changing room 5-0 up.
Atleti had completed an incredible first half, but Simeone’s players didn’t slow down after the break. Five minutes into the second half, Diego Costa scored his fourth goal of the night through a beautiful finish. Joao Félix got the assist once again. Nacho pulled one back to make it 6-1, and one hour into the game Diego Costa and Carvajal were sent off. But our team always wants more, and Vitolo scored the seventh 70 minutes in. Real Madrid scored a couple of goals in the dying minutes of the game and the final result was a massive 7-3 win for our team.
