Atleti secured the first win of the year as Correa and Felipe’s strikes earned us a 2-1 home victory over Levante.

Our team had a massive triple chance just seconds into the game, but the ball somehow didn’t end up in the back of the net. It didn’t take long for us to take the lead, though, as Correa scored our first goal of the year following a top-class assist from Trippier. The next few minutes were absolutely crazy. Levante equalised quickly but Atleti scored the second right away to regain the lead. This time it was Felipe who scored through a fantastic header. Simeone’s men kept pushing and creating problems for Levante’s high defensive line. Correa was close to scoring the third, but his strike was saved by Aitor.

The game was more evenly-matched after the break, and Simeone decided to move things around roughly one hour into the clash. Vitolo came on for Lodi, which meant that Saúl switched to left-back. Our team improved as the second half progressed and Joao Félix had a couple of good chances to score, the first of which went just wide and the second was intercepted by a defender as our forward was about to strike. Germán Valera made his first team debut in the dying minutes of the match as he came on for Joao Félix, and there was late drama in stoppage time, when Oblak had to pull off a sensational save to deny the equaliser. Luckily, our Slovenian was there and Atleti secured the first win of 2020.
