Atleti drew 0-0 at Getafe on Saturday despite creating many chances to score.

We enjoyed a fantastic start to the derby, attacking the hosts and collecting several chances early on. Carrasco in particular had a couple of attempts of goal inside the first 10’. We continued to dominate possession throughout the first half, but the hosts improved as the game progressed. Neither side had big chances to score for a while, until Carrasco had another strike saved by Soria in the final minutes of the first half.

Simeone decided to bring Joao Félix on for Saúl at the break, and the Portuguese striker proved to be active and intense. Oblak was forced to make a big save to deny a powerful strike in what was virtually Getafe’s only attempt on goal. Immediately after that, Joao Félix had a goal disallowed because the ball had previously gone out of bounds. Simeone continued to move things around and this time he brought in Lodi, Lemar and Dembélé for Hermoso, Carrasco and Correa.

The remainder of the match was non-stop attacking from Atleti, and to make things worse for the hosts, Nyom was sent off for an ugly tackle on Lodi. Soria produced a couple of sensational saves in the following minutes, first to deny Dembélé and then Joao Félix. We had two more massive chances before the end of the game that somehow didn’t end in the back of the net. The first was a beautiful left-foot strike from Suárez that hit the post, and then Dembélé headed the ball inches wide from close range. We attacked until the final whistle but the game ended 0-0 in Getafe.
