Atleti earned a key Champions League win on Tuesday as we beat Salzburg 3-2 at the Wanda Metropolitano. Llorente and Joao Félix (2) got the goals.

Our team collected big early chances, mainly through Joao Félix and Suárez. The Portuguese was inches away from scoring a sensational goal as he hit the crossbar from an overhead kick. The Uruguayan volleyed the ball just wide following a Trippier cross. The breakthrough finally arrived just before the half hour mark as Llorente struck it past the keeper with his left foot. However, the visitors equalised in the dying minutes of the first half through Szoboszlai.

Salzburg scored again right after the break. Berisha was on the scoresheet this time. But Atleti reacted well and Joao Félix equalised five minutes later. The goal was preceded by a great move between the Portuguese and Correa. Our number seven almost put us in front shortly thereafter as Trippier provided a good cross and he headed it just over the crossbar. The Englishman also set Koke up, but our captain’s strike was saved by the keeper.

Simeone made a triple change with about 10 minutes to go. Hermoso, Torreira and Lemar came on for Lodi, Herrera and Suárez… And the Frenchman made an immediate impact providing an assist for Joao Félix, who once again scored to put us in front and secure us a key win.
