Atleti picked up one point at Celta as Tuesday’s match ended 1-1.
Our team were off to an excellent start as Morata scored just 51 seconds into the game. Correa provided the assist following a play down the right flank. But Celta are a side with fantastic technical players, and they regrouped right away. Both teams tried to attack the opposition, but neither managed to produce clear chances to score.
However, the hosts equalised in the opening minutes of the second half through a somewhat unorthodox shot from Beltrán. Atleti reacted well, trying to restore the lead right away. Llorente created problems for Celta’s defence, but the hosts resisted. Simeone made a triple substitution 68 minutes into the match, when Manu Sánchez, Vitolo and Herrera came on for Lodi, Llorente and Thomas. Not long after, Correa made way for Lemar. The Frenchman had a chance to score inside the last 10 minutes, but his strike was saved by the keeper. Saponjic came on for Morata as we were about to reach stoppage time, but we were unable to score the winner and the game ultimately ended 1-1 in Vigo.
