Assuncao: 'Atletico is a big club, it has to be champion and complete the objectives'
'We have a strong team and we will fight for titles'
Paulo Assuncao is convinced of the potential of this squad. The Atletico midfielder said: 'This week has been a good one to work. The team is very good and we're doing a lot of shooting. This week has been good to train and get ready for the next game, which is important. '
Tiago said on Thursday that the current was the best squad since he has been at Atletico Madrid. Assuncao understands that 'I’ve been at the club four years and there have been major players like Simao, Forlan or Kun. They have been very good players and we have had very good squads. We have to try to get something because Atletico Madrid is a very big club, it has to be champion and complete the objectives.'
Regarding the start of the season, the Brazilian said: 'We are on track. We lost two big games against Valencia and Barcelona. Now we have a difficult game against Granada, we’ll gradually work to achieving the objectives of being in the Champions League.'
In relation to the spirit in the dressing room and how they are players, Assuncao notes that 'we are like a family and we respect that. We have a good coach and I think that is the same as last year. New players have come and we all work together to achieve the goal of being in the Champions League.'
Regarding his involvement in the team, the midfielder said: 'I have a contract with Atletico and I do my job. I'm in a very big club and I'm ready to play and to fight for victories.'
The team had a dinner on Thursday night. Assuncao understands that 'it was a moment to enjoy, to be relaxed and well because we all enjoy ourselves as well'.
Finally, Atletico Madrid aims to play the Champions League next season 'Atletico is a big team that fights for every title, Copa del Rey, Europa League and the League, and have a strong team to be there and win titles. We played three finals and won two last year. Now we have the team to win the Cup, the Europa League and to achieve the goal of qualifying for the Champions League,' he said.
