LONG-TIME CAPTAIN OF ATLÉTICO DE MADRID FEMENINO

Amanda Sampedro announces her retirement from professional football

The Madrid-born midfielder joined Atlético at the age of nine and spent 20 seasons with the first team, winning five trophies.

Amanda Sampedro, long-time captain of Atlético de Madrid Femenino, has announced her retirement from professional football. The Madrid-born midfielder joined the Rojiblancas’ academy at the age of nine and made her debut for the first team at just 15. She established herself in the senior side through her hard work and became one of their captains aged 18, before being named the main skipper in the 2014/15 season.

Over her 20 campaigns in Atlético colours from childhood until the 2021/22 season, Amanda helped her side to the first five trophies in their history: the 2015/16 Copa de su Majestad la Reina (when still known as Atlético de Madrid Féminas), three consecutive league titles (2016/17, 2017/18 and 2018/19) and one Supercopa de España in 2021.

She also currently sits second for the most competitive appearances in an Atlético de Madrid Femenino shirt (202, level with Carmen Menayo), behind only another midfield legend in Silvia Meseguer (205 appearances).

The club would like to wish Amanda Sampedro all the best for the future. It was a privilege to watch you develop with the Rojiblancas and live your dreams. Thank you for your efforts and congratulations on a successful career!
