Álvaro Morata was unveiled on Tuesday as a new Atlético de Madrid player, during an event that took place at the Wanda Metropolitano Auditorium.
The striker was accompanied by his family, Club President Enrique Cerezo, Atleti CEO Miguel Ángel Gil, Sports Director Andrea Berta, Club Director Clemente Villaverde.
Enrique Cerezo welcomed Morata to our club.
"Álvaro, I don't have to explain to you what wearing this shirt means. I know that your grandfather, who is a huge Atlético and whom we thank him for his passion and Red & White spirit, explained to you what our club stands for when you were very young. We are sure that Álvaro Morata will help us to keep growing and to reach our goals," our President said.
The striker played at our Academy for four season, during which he was a teammate of Koke. The two players will now reunite at our first team.
After an emotional video of Morata's Atleti childhood and another one of the player with his new shirt were played, the 26-year-old said he couldn't wait to make his Atleti debut.
"I'm very happy and proud to be here. I want to thank everyone who has helped bringing me to Atlético de Madrid for their effort. I can't wait to train with my new teammates this afternoon and to play," the striker said.
The Spaniard also admitted that the Atleti players had been texting him to make him feel at home.
"I don't feel new. My teammates have been texting me so that I feel part of the team. It makes me very happy," Morata said.
After answering the journalists' questions, Enrique Cerezo and Andrea Berta presented the striker with his new number 22 shirt.
