THE DEFENDER WAS HONORED BY HIS OLD CLUB

A special day for Godin

The Uruguayan received a plaque, a membership card and a shirt with the number 3 in memory of his passage through the Montevideo club before the start of the match against Nacional.

The afternoon in Montevideo was special, especially for Diego Godin, who was honored on the eve of the meeting. The centre back, who made his move to Europe just after playing with Nacional in Uruguay, received a Nacioanl shirt with number 3 on it, the membership card of the institution number 116,975 and a plaque in recognition of his work for the national side.

Godin was excited by the detail and posed with gifts on Centennial pitch. "Thank you Diego and in the future, we hope you com home again," said the PA. A tribute from a great club.

Godin: "Here football is lived differently, I am delighted to have played against Nacional"

The Uruguayan centre was happy to get back to playing football in his homeland and the great result that Atletico managed to pick up in an historic stadium like the Centennial. "We are happy because we won and played well. At first the game was a bit tight but with the changes we created more chances. Another after victory and now back to Spain to keep working," he said.

Godin and Cristian Rodriguez landed later than the rest of their teammates after playing the Confederations Cup. They have worked in Majadahonda to get to the same physical level as the rest of their teammates. They’re confident that preseason is going well and the centre back said that they will arrive at the beginning of the season in good physical shape. "Christian and I are fifteen days in to preseason because we joined after the other due to the Confederations Cup. This is the first football game we’ve had but I’m sure we’ll be right for the Super Cup and the League. We must continue to work to get fully fit" he concluded.
