A great victory at the Ponferradina Centenary
Goals from Carlos Martín (2), Reinildo and Alber helped Ponferradina come back from 2-0 down to finish with a win in a heavy downpour.
The match at El Toralín against Ponferradina served to celebrate the centenary of the León club and was the first and only test for our team before resuming official competition, first in the Copa del Rey on Thursday 22nd against Arenteiro and then in LaLiga on Thursday 29th at the Cívitas Metropolitano against Elche.
After a tentative first few minutes, the Bercianos were the first to make an early warning with a direct free-kick on the quarter of an hour by Naranjo, which Oblak had to punch clear. Our team's response came with a shot from Barrios, after a pass from Lemar, which looked for the home side's right-hand post but went wide. And, on the half hour mark, the first goal of the match arrived. Moussa found Heri deep in the box and he crossed in front of Oblak. From then on, our team could have levelled the game, but the saves of the Georgian goalkeeper of Ponferradina, Makaridze, made it 1-0 at half-time.
In the second half, the home side began the second half with a shot from Sergio Díez that the home goalkeeper was able to keep out, but it was the goal scorer who shot high from outside the area in the 51st minute and, in the 55th minute, he did succeed with a good dose of good fortune. His shot was cleared off the line by Oblak and the rebound hit Heri's leg and went into our goal. The team continued to insist and the dominance was not converted into a goal on two occasions by Carrasco. The first was saved by Makaridze and the second went just wide of the right post.
However, in the 76th minute came the first goal for the Red and Whites, after a free-kick from Reguilón was headed into the net by Reinildo inside the six-yard box. It was the start of a goal-scoring reaction that turned the game in our favour in 10 devastating minutes. Alber equalised in the 80th minute, after a cross from Reguilón, then Alber himself set up Carlos Martín twice to make it 2-3 and 2-4 in just two minutes. In the end, the red and white victory against Ponferradina thanks to the goalscoring success in the last quarter of an hour of the match. Next Thursday 22nd, return to official competition, in the Copa del Rey, against Arenteiro.
