A country on the move
The unstoppable growth of its economy see Azerbaijan become one of the key destinations for entrepreneurs around the world who want to do business in the Eurasian axis.
Large multinational companies are settling increasingly more in Azerbaijan. This republic of Eurasia, which currently has a population of over nine million inhabitants and an area of 86 600 km², is growing. Only in the last decade, the Azerbaijani economy has tripled thanks, among other things to diversification and a commitment to the industry that has managed to greatly reduce dependence on the oil and gas sector.
Azerbaijan works hard in the State Development Programme for 2020 which includes: promote balanced, sustainable quality and economy, improve the social welfare of the population and accelerate the progress of society in all sectors. The Azerbaijani economy has great agricultural potential that generates a lot of jobs.
However, the priority area is the development of information technology and communications. In February this year, the country launched its first telecommunications satellite in a space strategy framework.
A country in which to invest
The creation of a favourable business environment has led to increased investment, which only in 2012 amounted to 22 billion dollars. Seventeen thousand of them, for the petrochemical and refinery in Turkey, but Azerbaijan also invests in various projects in Georgia, Ukraine, Switzerland and Romania. This line also has developed the investment program in Russia and is scheduled to expand to Spain.
Efforts to further exploit the potential of the country as a whole goes hand in hand with others aimed at improving communications and tourism. All this opens up good opportunities for Spanish companies facing a market expansion hitherto little known but very promising.
