2021 starts at Alavés

Our team travels to Mendizorroza to face Alavés on Sunday. The game, which is to kick off at 4.15pm CET, is our first fixture of the year.

Atleti gear up for the first game of 2021 as we take on Alavés away. The game is to be played on Sunday at 4.15pm CET at the tough Mendizorroza.

Simeone’s men will look to start this year like they finished the previous one – with a win. In fact, the last time we lost the first match of the year was 11 years ago. Since then, we’ve earned seven wins and four draws in our openers.

Our team is currently leading the LaLiga standings with 35 points – two above second-placed Real Madrid and with two games in hand.

On the other hand, Alavés played their last league game of 2020 at Osasuna, where they drew 1-1. They’ve picked up 18 points so far and are three above the relegation zone. Machín’s side have lost just one of the last seven home matches in LaLiga (2W, 4D), whereas Atleti have won four of the last five games on the road.

Here’s to a good start to 2021!
