18 players called up for the Champions League
Simeone submitted the list of players called up to complete the official training session at the Calderon. The Belgian Toby Alderweireld gets his first call whilst Diego Costa misses out through suspension.
The eve of Champions League action at the Calderon and, as usual, official team training in the stadium already adorned with champions league symbols, announcing the return of the best club competition on the continent to the banks of the Manzanares. Russians side Zenit were the first to take to the field for their official training session. Luciano Spalletti, the Italian coach at the helm of St. Petersburg, has travelled to the capital of Spain with 21 players. They held a light training session in the time allocated by UEFA for the visiting team.
Later, at 19:30, Atleti started their 60 minutes session. The coordination exercises with ball control and tactical work were the theme for the session. After training the Argentine gave the list of 18 players called up for this first day of Champions League with the presence of the Belgian Toby Alderweireld and the absence of Diego Costa, who will complete his third of the four game suspension in European club competitions.
