Atleti beat Betis 1-0 at the Wanda Metropolitano on Saturday to secure Champions League football the upcoming season. Diego Costa scored the goal.

Llorente had an early chance to put us in front, but he struck just wide. Correa then scored, but the goal was disallowed following a VAR review due to a previous handball. A few minutes later, VAR disallowed yet another goal, this time from Morata, for an alleged offside. Trippier was forced to leave the pitch in the final minutes of the first half. Arias came on for the Englishman.

Simeone made a triple substitution 10 minutes after the break, as Saúl, Llorente and Morata made way for Costa, Vitolo and Carrasco. But shortly thereafter, Hermoso was sent off due to a challenge from behind, and Simeone decided to bring Felipe on for Correa. Betis stepped up their game and began to attack us more and more. But when we struggled the most, Carrasco curled the ball into the box and Costa provided the finish to finally put us in front with 15 minutes to go. Atleti held on to the lead to win the game, secure Champions League qualification and go 16 games unbeaten.
