Atleti drew 0-0 against Athletic Club at the Wanda Metropolitano on Saturday. Joao Félix was sent off in the second half.

Griezmann came very close from putting us in front in the first seconds of the match. Trippier and Llorente connected down the right wing before crossing the ball towards the Frenchman, who got his foot to it but unfortunately was off target. We started the game well and were dangerous – collecting several chances in the opening 15’. De Paul tried his luck from the edge of the box as we approached the first half hour but was off target. Correa also found himself in dangerous positions a couple of times, although he was unable to produce a clean strike. Despite our best efforts, we reached half-time with the score at 0-0.

Correa had a massive chance in the opening seconds of the second half. Lodi provided the cross and the Argentine headed it just wide. It was a great start from our team as we didn’t stop there and kept pushing. Simeone made a triple substitution 10’ into the second half. Herrera, Carrasco and Suárez came on for Kondogbia, Lodi and Griezmann. As we hit the hour mark, Correa made way for Joao Félix. The Portuguese forward and Carrasco started to create big problems for the visitors’ defence down the left flank and Atleti began to dominate. However, Athletic Club also had a couple of good chances. Llorente answered with a fantastic right-foot shot the struck the post before Cunha came on for Trippier in the 76th minute. Unfortunately, the referee sent off Joao Félix – forcing us to play with 10 men for the remainder of the clash. We kept pushing until the very end despite being a man down. Savic came close to finding the winner as he headed the ball just over the crossbar, but the game ultimately ended 0-0.
