Atlético de Madrid Escudo Atlético de Madrid

THE ORIGIN OF THE BADGE THAT THE MEMBERS HAVE CHOSEN DATES BACK TO 1917

In constant evolution since 1917

After the period as Club Atlético-Aviación, our club recovered the badge, that starting July 1, 2024 will represent us and that has had various iterations.

As stated in the club's archives and can be confirmed by 'Territorio Atleti' documentation team, the Atlético de Madrid badge that most of the members have chosen to represent the club originated in 1917, when our entity it was called Athletic Club. This badge replaced the founding one of 1903. It shows the stars on a blue background surrounding the bear and the strawberry tree, which are the symbols of the badge of Madrid. It has a total of twelve stripes, six red and six white. This badge was in force until 1939, although it never appeared on the players' jersey.

On October 4, 1939, the Athletic Club of Madrid merged with the Aviación Nacional, giving rise to the Athletic-Aviación Club. As of January 1941, due to a regulation that forced the suspension of foreign words, our entity was renamed Club Atlético-Aviación. With the merger of both clubs, a new badge arises, formed from the existing one, although with seven stripes, four red and three white, and the emblem of the National Aviation, which provides the wings and the royal crown. It will be the club's badge until 1946.

On January 1, 1947, the club was renamed Club Atlético de Madrid. Under this new denomination, the wings and the crown, the distinctive elements of the Air Force incorporated in 1939, disappear from the badge. The stripes become eight, four red and four white. The symbols related to Madrid are also maintained, such as the bear, the strawberry tree and the seven stars on a blue square. This badge, framed in blue, was incorporated into the team's jersey from 1947. However, between 1948 and 1968 it did not appear on the jerseys because the teams stopped wearing the badge on their jerseys during that time.

Starting in 1968, already playing at the Manzanares Stadium, the badge returns to the Atlético de Madrid jersey, but with a gold or yellow outline because it was embroidered by hand. For three decades there have been different applications of the badge both on jerseys and on billboards and official club documents. In addition to the fact that the emblem presents numerous versions in another of its outstanding elements such as the bear and the strawberry tree.

At the end of the 90s, with the improvement of the design, production and ironing systems, there was a clear improvement in the definition of the elements of our badge on the jerseys. This will be the badge on all the jerseys applied by the different sports brands, although coexisting in many stages with a badge with a blue border as an institutional element.
