Atlético de Madrid was eager to continue the good run of victories and wanted to solve the match against Deportivo as soon as possible. And it started well, with a goal by Saúl to a measured cross from Filipe Luis, after the first quarter of an hour of the match. The team broke the tough defence of the Galician and could have gone to the half-time with more advantage if Griezmann had not missed his chance.

But after the break, everything was decided in another electric quarter of an hour. Carrasco was the leader needed by the team and had two opportunities, one that hit the crossbar and another saved by Lux. But on the third try, Griezmann did not miss. He could make it big with a good left-footed drive to a genius pass from Koke. From there, Simeone decided to exhaust the substitutions and the team headed towards victory. Strap rounded off the landslide in the final stretch.
