Simeone: “The important thing is to play with excitement and emotion”
Before the UEFA Super Cup on Wednesday against Real Madrid, Diego Pablo Simeone, Diego Godín and Koke spoke to the press and analyzed the match.
Our season will officially kick-off on Wednesday at 9 p.m. CET at the Lillekula Stadium in Tallinn, Estonia. Our manager Diego Pablo Simeone and captains Diego Godín and Koke spoke to the press to talk about Wednesday’s UEFA Super Cup against Real Madrid.
“The important thing for tomorrow’s match is to be excited and give it our all,” Godin said. “My personal objectives are the same ones the team has: keep improving.”
We qualified for the Super Cup after winning the Europa League last season in Lyon and Koke wants to win tomorrow to start the season off in the best possible manner.
“It’s exciting to be here and to be able to play another final,” Koke said. “We’re excited and we want to play well. We want to bring the trophy home.”
Godín also spoke about what it means to be our first captain this season.
"What I feel when I wear the captain’s armband is happiness and pride," he said. "It's a huge responsibility."
Simeone agrees with Godín and Koke and knows how important it is for the players to be on their toes.
“We’re going to play the match in the best possible way for us to be able to seize control of it,” Simeone said. “Everyone who is here is ready to play.”
Our boss has been following Real Madrid’s preseason and believes he saw what they can do in their last two friendlies.
“Based on their last two matches, perhaps we can see how tomorrow’s game will go,” he said. “They pressure well when they lose the ball and pressure high up to pitch to recover the ball.”
Simeone knows how important it is for the team to play as with passion tomorrow and give it their all.
“The important thing is to play with excitement and emotion,” he said. “That can decide the match.”
