Saúl: "I am where I want to be"

This Friday, the 7th of July, the presentation event of the renewal of our player Saúl Ñíguez until 2026 was held in the VIP Lounge of the Vicente Calderón. The red and white player from the ranks was accompanied, in addition to his family, by Enrique Cerezo, Miguel Ángel Gil, Clemente Villaverde, Andrea Berta, José Luis Pérez Caminero and Adelardo Rodríguez.

The event started with a few words from our president. Enrique Cerezo congratulated Saúl on his contract extension, remembering that it has been 10 years since his arrival to the Academy: "Saúl is an example for all young people who wear the Atlético de Madrid shirt every weekend. Only with hard work and dedication are dreams reached and Saúl's trajectory testifies to it."

Then, two videos were shown with spectacular goals scored by the player and images of all his trajectory as a football player, from his childhood to today. An unpublished video, with Saúl's statements after his debut on March 8th, 2012 with the first team, closed the audio-visual part of the event.

The player, visibly touched, took the stage to assess the agreement: "I am where I want to be and I’m happy," he noted.

The mid-fielder, who was surrounded by his family and friends wanted to thank everyone for their support. Saúl remembered his teammates and coaches of the lower categories and had a special mention to the football players and the manager of the first team, who have supported him since his debut in 2012. "The club continues to grow and I want to improve and grow with Atlético de Madrid," he said.

In addition, he noted: "This year is going to be exciting. We have reached 105,000 members, that it is a huge number and we’re going to keep growing," he added.

Finally, our player from the ranks wanted to encourage the young football players to continue fighting for their dreams. "My advice is that they soak up the values of Atlético de Madrid because they are going to serve them not only on the field but in life too."
