Philips Lighting, global leader in lighting, is the new supplier of the club for the next four seasons. Josep Martínez, President and CEO of Philips Lighting Spain and Portugal, and Enrique Cerezo made official on the stage of the spectacular Gran Vía Philips Theatre of Light the agreement that will make our new stadium the first in the world to have entirely LED technology. Miguel Ángel Gil, CEO, José Luis Pérez Caminero, sports director, and first team players Miguel Ángel Moyá and Gabi completed the representation of the club in the event that seals the alliance between the two companies.

The event was presented by Jorge Jusdado, marketing director for Philips Lighting Spain and Portugal, who thanked the work done to the engineers of hi team and highlighted the role that light will have in the Wanda Metropolitano, the first to benefit from Philips Arena Experience, a new LED lighting system that will accompany the fans throughout their experience before, during and after the matches. The project will cover the whole of the illumination from the pitch to the façade and roofing, as well as all the hospitality areas.

Today, we can proudly say that our club will have the best lighting experience in a football stadium

The Wanda Metropolitano thus presents one of its key elements for next season’s opening. "We meet today to announce another strategic step in our journey toward the opening of our new home next season. A very important step which will place our new stadium at the forefront of technology and will allow us to shine more brightly," said Enrique Cerezo.

Our chairman wanted to note the importance of the agreement. "We can proudly say that Atlético de Madrid will count with the best lighting experience of a football stadium. Philips is, without a doubt the best partner to take the leap into the new concept of show that we want to implement in the Wanda Metropolitano. The lighting will be a substantial part of the experience of the fans who visit us from next season; before, during and after the match," he stressed.

Philips is, without a doubt, the best partner to take the leap into the new concept of show

In the past 60 years, Philips Lighting has been at the forefront of the lighting of sports stadiums, both in the pitches, and in the access and transit areas, façades and VIP areas, in addition to special horticulture lighting for the growth of grass. The lighting transmits feelings and reinforces the excitement that is experienced in these spaces. More than 65% of the major sports stadiums and 55% of football stadiums at a global level have lighting technology from Philips Lighting. In Spain, 15 of the 19 stadiums with greater capacity have lighting from Philips Lighting.

Josep Martínez, President and CEO of Philips Lighting Spain and Portugal, noted the work that has been done for our new stadium: "The lighting specifically designed for this space will bring light one step further, allowing the stadium to be alive and make the attendees vibrate, from the access to the Wanda Metropolitano to the VIP areas of Neptuno-Atlético de Madrid Premium, changing the way of watching a match both on the pitch and on television."

Dynamic lighting will allow to project the colours of the team on each match to encourage the fans since they access the Wanda Metropolitano, to change the colour when a goal is scored or perform lighting shows designed for every occasion.

Gabi was delighted with the news of what the Atlético fans will be able to enjoy next season. "The Wanda Metropolitano is going to be the best in the world," the captain indicated. For his part, Miguel Ángel Moyá stressed the importance of lighting for the players on the pitch. Above all, in specific positions such as the goalkeeper. "Lighting is key for a goalkeeper," he explained.

The spectacular roofing which will be installed in the Wanda Metropolitano, suspended on the playing field, will have dynamic lighting from Philips VayaFlood, with more than 16 million colours. The combination of this technology with the Philips ColorKinetics dynamic lighting of the façade, will allow to create luminous shows. In addition, it will be able to interact with the lighting of the façade or operate independently.

All this technological deployment in the lighting will make the Wanda Metropolitano one of the most innovative and cutting-edge of the world, as well as a new icon in Madrid’s skyline.
