Lucas extends his contract for two more seasons
The French defender has signed a new contract with our entity and is happy to extend his commitment with our club until 2022.
Lucas Hernández has extended his contract with Atlético de Madrid for two more seasons. The French defender, after signing his new contract with our club, which now extends until June 30th, 2022, was happy to "renew with the club of my life."
Lucas, who is 21, has trained in our Academy from the U11 category, a team he joined in the 2007-08 season. Since his beginning in Atlético’s lower categories, his career has been brilliant, standing out in all the stages until he made it into the first team in the 2015-16 season, in which he was a main figure in critical moments such as the knockout round of the one of the Champions League quarter-finals against FC Barcelona.
This season, the French left-back has continued his great progression, establishing himself as a top value and playing 20 matches so far. He is also a regular in the squad lists of the French U21 national team.
For José Luis Pérez Caminero, the agreement reached with Lucas Hernández is "a source of joy for all the Atléticos, since he is a player with an enormous potential and a spectacular future."
Our Sporting Director emphasizes, "His strength and speed, along with an astonishing maturity for one so young. Lucas has had to perform in very awkward moments and has always done it at a great level. This is great news for us."
