Jorge Resurrección, Koke, and Atlético de Madrid have closed a renovation agreement by which the player from the ranks commits with our club until June 30th, 2024. The international midfielder has signed his new commitment that extends for five more seasons to those set in his previous contract. After his contract extension was making settled on, the player assured that, "Atleti is the club of my life and it’s an honour to be part of its future."
At 25, Koke is one of the captains of the first team and one of the biggest symbols of our Academy, which he joined with only 8 years of age. The player from Vallecas stood out as he played in all the lower categories, making his debut with the first team at only 17 in a King’s Cup match at the Camp Nou. During the 2009-10 and 2010-11 campaigns, he played in Atlético’s reserve team, but played several fixtures with the first team.
- Are the titles won by Koke with our first team
It would be in the 2011-12 season when he would become officially a part of the first squad, with which he has won 5 titles (League, King’s Cup, UEFA Europa League, UEFA Super Cup and Spanish Super Cup), becoming one of the captains and leaders of one of the most successful teams of Atlético’s history. In these seasons, Koke has played 323 matches with the red and white shirt, scoring 28 goals.
At the same time, he was an international player in all the lower categories of the national team until becoming a full international, with which, despite his youth, he has already played the World Cup of Brazil and the UEFA European Championship of France. Koke won the U21 European championship in 2013.
José Luis Pérez Caminero was very happy with the agreement reached with Koke: "It’s fantastic news for all the Atléticos. Koke personifies what it is to be an Atlético. He is a very supportive player with the group, who works tirelessly, has the highest quality and an enormous desire for self-improvement. He is one of this team’s leaders and has grown up since very young with the values of our Academy, so knowing that he will continue with us for many more years is the best of news." For our sporting director, "despite his youth, he is already very experienced and an example for all the children who are training in the Academy. He is a very dear and respected player in the dressing room and is going to go down in the club’s history."
