ATLÉTICO DID NOT HAVE LUCK IN THEIR CHANCES AND VILLARREAL DID NOT FORGIVE THEIRS

Hard punishment at El Madrigal

Atlético missed their options before the first home team’s goal and paid it dearly. In addition, the first two goals came accompanied by injuries, Tiago in the first one and Oblak in the second one.

Forgettable first half at El Madrigal. After a beginning with greater control from Villarreal, the team got more control of the match and warned with three clear chances. First it was Correa the one to force Asenjo to save a goal. After that, Koke hit the post and, a little later, Gameiro tried but his shot went over the left crosspiece. Villarreal’s answer came in the shape of two goals in the 28th and 38th minutes. Around that time, Tiago and Oblak had to be substituted due to injuries to the knee and the shoulder respectively. Just at the end of the first half, Asenjo saved his team again in a one-on-one with Griezmann.

Into the second half, nothing changed despite the attempt of our team again and again against a Villarreal that was waiting in its field. Carrasco's entry did not provide the expected change in the offensive and in the injury time, Villarreal scored the third goal.
