Griezmann and Lucas renew their contract and Lemar signs the agreement
The meeting between our CEO and the three players took place in the concentration of the French team following the guidelines set by the French Federation and the coach Didier Deschamps.
Miguel Ángel Gil Marín flew this Monday to Istria, Russia, to sign the renovations of Antoine Griezmann and Lucas Hernández, as well as the agreement with Thomas Lemar. Griezmann renews until 2023
Antoine Griezmann extends his contract for one more season, until 30 June 2023. The French forward arrived at Atlético de Madrid in the summer of 2014 from Real Sociedad and started his first season winning the Spanish Super Cup against Real Madrid (1-1 and 1-0). He played 53 official matches, scoring 25 goals and giving 6 assist.
In the 2015-16 season the French forward played 54 official matches, scoring 32 goals, 7 of them in the UEFA Champions League, and he gave 7 assists. He also shone with the French team in the UEFA Euro 2016, where he was proclaimed MVP and achieved the Golden Boot with 6 goals.
In the 2016-17 season the French international performed again at a huge level, playing 53 matches, scoring 26 goals, 6 in the UEFA Champions League, and giving 12 assists.
Griezmann has been once again one of the leaders of the team in the recently concluded season. The Frech has played in 49 official matches, scoring 29 goals and giving 15 assists. Nobody forgets his performance in the final of the UEFA Europa League in Lyon, where Antoine scored the first two goals of the team in the conquest of the third trophy in this competition.
Lucas extends his contract until 2024
On his behalf, Lucas Hernández has renewed his contract with our club for two more years, until 30 June 2024. Lucas has been an important player this season and has participated in 44 matches. At only 22 years, he’s defended our colours 88 times.
Lucas joined our academy back in 2007 and has since then progressed through the ranks until he reached our first team in 2014. His debut for the first team came on 3 December 2014 against RCD L’Hospitalet in a Copa del Rey match, Round of 16, first leg.
Lucas has defended our badge in numerous competitions: LaLiga, Copa del Rey, UEFA Europa League and UEFA Champions League, and while playing for our club, Lucas has won the UEFA Europa League in Lyon, a match in which he played the 90 minutes.
His spectacular season did not go unnoticed by the French coach. After debuting with the national team on March 23 against Colombia, Didier Deschamps, coach of the French national team, did not hesitate to call him for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, the first big date for our player with his team.
Lemar, pending a check-up and the formalization of the definitive agreement
Lemar's contract was also signed pending the relevant medical check-up and formalization of the definitive transfer agreement with AS Monaco.
